This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the “Service”). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: name, email address, password, date of birth (to verify you are 18+), denomination, profile photo, and selfie verification image.
- Profile information: prayer style, life season, topics you want to pray about, availability, and optional location (city/region).
- Content you create: chat messages, prayer requests, journal entries, community feed posts, and group messages.
- Communications: messages you send to our support team.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, session duration, clicks, and in-app actions.
- Device data: device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, and push notification tokens.
- Log data: IP address, browser type, referring URLs, and error logs.
Information from Third Parties
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from those providers. We do not receive your password. You may choose what information those providers share with us.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.
- Match you with compatible prayer sisters based on your profile.
- Enable chat, video prayer sessions, prayer requests, and community features.
- Send you prayer reminders, match notifications, and challenge updates via push notification — we aim to be gentle, never spammy.
- Investigate reports of harmful content or behavior, and moderate the community.
- Improve our matching algorithm and overall app experience.
- Comply with applicable laws and protect the safety of our users.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in these limited circumstances:
- With your prayer sisters: the profile information you choose to make visible, your messages, and content you share are visible to your matched sisters and, where applicable, to community members.
- Service providers: third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, video infrastructure, push notification delivery). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to perform services for us.
- Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Prayer Sisters, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if Prayer Sisters is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Selfie Verification
To help maintain a trustworthy community, we ask members to complete a selfie verification. Verification images are used solely to confirm that your profile photo matches a real person. We do not use facial recognition technology for identification or tracking. Verification images are deleted within 30 days of successful verification.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer, or where retention is necessary to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
Journal entries and private messages are deleted immediately upon account deletion and cannot be recovered.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and correction: you may view and update your profile information at any time within the app.
- Delete your account: you may delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Account → Delete Account at any time.
- Push notifications: you may opt out of push notifications through your device settings at any time.
- Data portability: you may request a copy of your data by contacting us at support@prayersisters.app.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable law. Please contact us to exercise those rights.
7. Children's Privacy
Prayer Sisters is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe we may have information from or about a minor, please contact us immediately.
8. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via push notification or email. Your continued use of the Service after any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
